Faux

I've never been one to wear fur items of clothing, but I've noticed that fur jackets are slowly creeping back into fashion and so I opted to wear one this week! Fortunately, I didn't need to purchase one as my mum kindly gave me this beautiful faux fur jacket that she bought a few years ago! I was more than happy to wear it, as it proved to dress up my highly casual outfit. What I love about fur items of clothing are the statements that they make. Why not make a statement in life? Fashion is so incredible as it enables us with the tools needed for us to showcase our individual identity, and stand out amongst a crowd. Without fashion, how is one to perfectly present this individuality to society? I pondered this thought a lot this week.

Linking back to this weeks look, it is essentially dominated by the jacket, thus faux fur material. Honestly, I would never purchase an item of clothing made from real fur. Faux fur is a beautiful substitute; it can look and feel the same, yet hasn't been obtained from such cruel circumstances. What's your opinion on fur and faux fur? One of my favourite films of all time: The Devil Wears Prada, questions Andy Sachs when asking:

"You think this is just a magazine? This is not just a magazine. This is a shining beacon of hope."

For a society consumed by technology, it's safe to say that magazine failure is a likely threat. But should it be? Should we allow digital media to serve as the only way of publicising fashion? Most certainly not.

The Flaneur

Ahh, exams are over!! I have officially started University again today, with new forms of literature being lectured to me. Over the past few days I have been exploring London all over again, as I haven't really had the chance to due to revision. I've missed strolling around the city and everything it has to offer in so many different areas, from Shoreditch to Camden to Soho to Mayfair. I even managed to visit the Vogue House on Friday in their very own Conde Nast publications store, to which I was completely astounded by the aesthetically pleasing presentation of many magazines. London never fails to amaze me.

This weeks look is dominated by black - what a surprise! I managed to purchase this long chiffon duster coat for an unbelievably cheap price as a website I discovered was wanting to clear their stock for the new season. But I've already matched it with so many clothes, as it always seems to dress up a casual outfit! I love having pieces like this in my wardrobe for that exact reason. Skirt wise, I know velvet is considered a material to wear around Christmas, but why not afterwards too? It's such a gorgeous material! Paired with heels, it can consolidate a classy evening outfit, but with boots, a chic daytime look! I feel like every person longs for a comfortable pair of boots each winter to wear all the time and match with pretty much every outfit. I was so happy to find my pair for this year on Asos, although I've clearly worn them too much already - I do apologise that these boots are so destroyed on these photos! But hey, I guess that shows love doesn't it?!

The Secret Garden

2015 was a year of many highlights for me, the greatest part being in September when I moved to London. Over the past few weeks, I have spent time at home for Christmas break which I really enjoyed; the quietness of my neighbourhood gave me a lot of time to relax. Though after settling into 2016, I was massively excited to return to London yesterday. Ironically, the typical frosty weather that one anticipates for Christmas didn't occur, and instead I've found the temperature to be dropping more and more each day into the new year! Nothing suits cold and frosty weather more than grey and white colours, and so it is the month of January which inspired this weeks look for me.

I loved the summer trend of sleeveless waistcoats, so opted to wear one despite the cold weather! As long as it is paired with warm layers underneath, I think a long waistcoat is really suited to winter. Raf Simons's Dior Vinyl boots were the statement shoe on the runway last year, and so I was thrilled to find a similar pair for myself as they are so different to any other boots that shops are selling at the moment. I find that fitted boots compliment wide legged trousers really well, and I was so happy with how they looked here as they really emphasised the culotte shape of the jumpsuit I paired them with.

I loved wearing this look on my last day at home as I visited my local park and also carried out some much needed retail therapy. Revision for my exams (which are next week, oh my gosh) has taken over the week for me, so the break was certainly needed!
